Change your checking in 4 easy steps
If the only reason you haven't opened a Metro checking account
is the hassle of closing your old one, don't wait any longer! Our
online Switch Kit has been designed to make the change from
your current institution to Columbus Metro simple, convenient and
hassle-free. Follow our easy instructions and you'll be saving time
and money with your new Metro checking account in no time!
Four Simple Steps
This page contains links to everything you need to make your move.
Just follow our five simple steps. Please be sure to fill out each
form completely, as incomplete information may delay processing
of your request.
1. Checking Account & Other Applications
Before you close your old checking account, you'll want to be sure
that your new one is open and ready for use. First, review our selection
of checking accounts. Once you've chosen
the account that's right for you, print and complete our handy checking
application.
Once you've selected a checking account, decide which other services
you'll need. Our MasterMoney Check Card,
MetroWeb and MetroWeb
Bill Pay are all great complements to our checking accounts.
Print and complete the appropriate applications for these services.
Many of our members choose to use Metro
Line, our personal credit line, as an overdraft protection loan.
To apply, link to our Instant
Loan Approval Service or print and complete our paper application.
Applications and your opening checking deposit can be dropped
off at any of our offices or mailed to us.
2. Direct Deposit Change Notice
Use this form* to notify
businesses or organizations that are depositing funds into your
checking account. Many government agencies, including Social Security,
allow you to change your direct deposit over the phone. A list of
agencies and their phone numbers are as follows:
- Social Security, Railroad Retirement or Office of Personnel
Management payments, call 1.800.333.1795 or sign up online at
www.GoDirect.org.
Please note: You may only sign up online if you are currently
receiving a check. Additionally, you will need either a claim
number from the paying agency or a check number from a recent
check plus the amount of your most recent payment to enroll online.
- Social Security, call 1.800.772.1213
- Department of Veterans Affairs, call 1.877.838.2778
- Military Retirement, call 1.216.522.5127
- Office of Personnel Management (civil service), call 1.888.767.6738
- For Railroad Retirement Board (automated system), call 1.800.808.0772
We recommend that you maintain accounts at both Columbus Metro
and your old financial institution until we receive your first direct
deposit.
3. Direct Payment Change Notice
You'll need to notify businesses that are deducting direct
payments from your current checking account that your account
is changing. Use this form
to contact your mortgage company, insurance agent, utilities and
other companies that receive your payments electronically. You may
be able to change or initiate direct payments for your utilities
(water, cable, gas and electric) at www.autobillpay.com.
4. Checking Account Closure Notice
Once you've changed your direct payments and direct deposit and
verified that all checks have cleared your old account, you're ready
to close it. Use this handy form,
or simply write a check for the balance remaining in your old account
and deposit it in your new account at Columbus Metro.
If you have any questions at any time during your checking switch,
please don't hesitate to email
us or call our Member Services department at 614.239.0210 or
