MetroWeb Security

The security of your personal information is of the utmost importance to Columbus Metro. We have state-of-the-art systems to secure our computer servers and networks, and several additional layers of security to ensure that your personal and account information remains safe and secure. Information about many of the security measures we have in place is listed below. Of course, there are details that we can't provide in order to maintain the integrity of our security systems.

Security Measure

Description

Username & Access Code
Enrollment is required before an account can be accessed via MetroWeb.
MetroWeb users must create a username the first time they log on to their account. Further account access requires both the correct username and the correct access code.
After a series of invalid login attempts, online account access is blocked until further verification can be completed. If this happens, MetroWeb will provide instructions for reactivating your account.
Internet Browsers
You must use an Internet browser that supports 128-bit encryption. This encrypts information as it travels between your computer and ours.
All of our recommended browsers support 128-bit encryption. You should check with your browser provider on a regular basis to install any recent security patches or updates.
You can easily determine if a given web site is secure. On secure sites, a padlock displays in your browser's status bar. The padlock indicates that the site uses a digital security certificate and SSL (see below) is in place.
Session Timeout
An online session is automatically terminated once it has been idle or inactive for 10 minutes.
Encryption/SSL
Encryption scrambles the data that travels between our server and your browser. Only the browser that originated the transaction can decrypt the information sent by the server. This eliminates the possibility that information could be intercepted as it travels back and forth.
MetroWeb employs Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, the leading security protocol on the Internet.
Firewalls
Our network is protected from outside intrusion by state-of-the-art redundant and load-balanced firewalls.
These secure mechanisms control and prevent unauthorized access to our internal systems.
Systems Security Audits
Our systems are frequently audited by outside experts to identify and rectify any vulnerabilities.
Multi-Factor Authentication
An authentication factor is a piece of information used to authenticate, or verify, a person's identity for security purposes. Multi-factor authentication is a system wherein two different factors are used to verify a MetroWeb user's identity. Columbus Metro utilizes multi-factor authentication by requiring you to answer up to three questions that you only you would know the answer to. This added security further protects your personal financial information and identity.
